• The high season in Alaska begins in May and lasts until September. This is immediately noticeable by airfares, which almost double. In summer, the temperature (except in the northern regions) may rise to +30ºC, and the day lasts up to 18 hours. Even at midnight it is still light and you can walk around. In September the weather remains fine but the thermometer shows around +15ºC.
  • Winter usually starts in early November with snowfall. At this time opens the ski season, but be aware that the temperature can drop to -40º C during the day and -50º C at night. But even that can’t stop you from going outside and watching the magical northern lights. Spring comes to Alaska in March and lasts until late April. This is the rainy and windy season, when locals try to go outside only when necessary.
  • Alaska is a traditional venue for folk music festivals. They are held in the summer, outdoors, and attract many musicians from all over America. In addition to the famous bands, you can also see unknown bands – all you need to do is to apply on time and successfully audition. In addition to concerts, there are art exhibits of paintings, clothing and vintage jewelry. Three of the most popular events are the Anderson Bluegrass Festival, the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival and the Alaska Folk Festival.
  • Another unusual holiday that is a must-see is called WEIO, the World Eskimo-Indian Olympic Games. The event is held in Fairbanks on the third Wednesday of July. The program contains only non-standard sports that are considered traditional among the indigenous peoples of the North. You will be able to see “tug of war”, “drag four people” and “jumping from the knees”. The most spectacular and, at the same time, the most brutal is considered “tug-of-war”. During the struggle, the rivals experience excruciating pain from the twine put on their ears. In parallel, there are many cultural competitions – participants compete in singing, music, tailoring and even in the carving of salmon speed. Qualifying competitions are held during the day. Admission to them – free. And to attend the main program you have to buy a ticket.
